The History of the Point Foundation

The Point Foundation was originally run under a UK vending operator, Coffee Point. Coffee Point were passionate about their Corporate Social Responsibilities and supported employees to visit a number of orphanages in both Bulgaria and South Africa.

We became involved with the Lily of the Valley and Makuputo orphanages in Petersmaritzberg, South Africa, where we installed a computer school, built a football pitch and raised significant funds for medical, clothing and food supplies.

A number of new and much larger projects were started in 2007 with the result that Charles Trace and Guy Bellamy set up the Point Foundation as a registered charity, which formalised the work we were doing.

In May 2008, the Foundation was delighted when Sally Gunnell OBE accepted the role of Patron. Today the Foundation raises funds and provides on the ground support for 5 major projects helping around 2500 children, most of whom are orphaned and live in institutions. The projects are based in Southern Africa where 85% of the children are HIV and in Rwanda, which does not have the same Aids problem but has many of their own following the genocide of the mid 90’s.

The Foundation has 7 trustees, with Charles as Chairman, a full time employee based at our biggest orphanage in Rwanda, and on the ground support in South Africa. Daniel Graham – MD of Imporient UK, whose tea plantation is opposite the Noel Orphanage in Rwanda, is one of the Board members. We work very closely with the &beyond Foundation who use our funding for specific work in their communities.
